From Learning to Launch: Life in the Part-Time Immersive

At Codesmith, we believe that technical growth and community go hand in hand. From Learning to Launch is a special panel event where recent graduates and current residents from the Part-Time  Software Engineering + AI/ML Immersive (PTRI) program share their journeys. They will be covering their personal experiences,  from their first lines of code to launching impactful projects and joining the tech industry.

Moderated by the Part-Time Program Fellow Felipe Valencia, this conversation offers an authentic look into how residents balance learning with full-time commitments, the collaborative culture that defines the program, and the milestones that shape their transformation into software engineers.

• Joshua Hirakawa, a talented full-stack engineer and creator of Kaftain, a Kafka consumer lag autoscaler for Kubernetes.
• Clara Regula, a former Family Nurse Practitioner and Codesmith PTRI graduate now at GE HealthCare, bridging her clinical oncology expertise with software skills to advance healthcare technology.
• Will Suto, a software engineer at Seasats, helping build autonomous surface vehicles for ocean data collection.
